Princess Yasmin Aga Khan held the first Rita Hayworth Gala in 1985 to honor her mother, actress Rita Hayworth, who died as a result of Alzheimer's disease. The event has grown into a premier social series, hosted in three cities nationwide: Chicago, New York and the newly added Dallas.
The Rita Hayworth Galas have raised a combined $52 million for the Alzheimer's Association's research, support and care efforts. These funds, combined with other donations, have helped the Association raise more than $220 million since 1984.
Held annually on Mother's Day weekend, the Chicago Rita Hayworth Gala celebrates and honors medical research and programs in the treatment, prevention and cure of Alzheimer's disease.
